The oppositional parties call for the Georgian Dream to fully fulfill the 8th March agreement. The opposition also states that the judicial system is being politicized once again.
The joint statement was released by the United National Movement's press office.
"On 8 March, withing the political agreement which was reached alongside with the participation of the diplomatic missions of the USA and the EU, the state authorities committed to take an action against the acts that can be interpreted as mistreatment of the judiciary and electoral processes in terms of its politicization. We've also agreed that these types of actions would be avoided in the future. The release of the political prisoners, Giorgi Ugulava and Irakli Okruashvili, by the President of Georgia, was a step forward in the direction of fulfilling the conditions.
At the same time, we also think that fulfilling all the components of the 8th March agreement and making the constitutional changes remain fundamental in order to avoid a political crisis in the country. The parliamentary oppositional parties maintain their readiness to support the constitutional changes if all the conditions are met. The agreement won't be deemed fulfilled until the political prisoner, Giorgi Rurua remains in the cell.
In parallel with the judicial fiasco, there is a deliberate discrediting campaign going on against Giorgi Rurua from the side of the authorities.
We're extremely concerned with this deliberate discreditation campaign that is launched by the state-controlled media outlets.
It is obvious that there is an attempt to politicize the judicial system once again. This contradicts the spirit of the 8th March agreement and endangers the political consensus which was established on the basis of the agreement.
We would like to once again call for the authorities to fulfill the conditions of the 8th March agreement which will enable the country to strengthen its democratic system and to prepare for less polarized 2020 parliamentary elections", - it is said in the statement.
The statement was signed by the following parties: Girchi, The United National Movement, European Georgia, National-Democratic Party, New Georgia, Republican Party, Lelo, Labour Party, State for the People, United Georgia, Victorious Georgia, European Democrats, Christian-Conservative Party, Civic Alliance for Liberty, Free Democrats.
