The Minister of Defence, Irakli Gharibashvili made damaging statement for Georgia, cynically saying that the ongoing demonstrations accompanied by vandalism and aggression in the US are unacceptable and that Georgia experienced the same during the protests in June 2019, said Armaz Akhvlediani, former political secretary of the Georgian Dream.
“Mentioning the United States and its people, which has been Georgia's major strategic partner, in such a negative context, is nothing but Mr. Ivanishvili's anti-West intentions and the vivid expression of pro-Russian interests! Comparing the processes in the US to the protests in Georgia of the last years in inadequate and misleading!
Over the past three decades, the United States has been Georgia's major strategic partner and its supporter in every crisis on behalf of its people!
Unlike Mr. Ivanishvili's undemocratic regime, which has been undermining the freedom of speech, independent court, and suppressing political pluralism and the business sector, all the freedoms mentioned above have been well-protected and guaranteed by the long-standing practice and tradition of all three branches of the US government!
On my part, I would remind Mr. Gharibashvili, who has been distinguished with his notorious statements that unlike him and his government which has been under the total control of one man, the Secretary of Defense along with another high-level representative of the US government are loyal to the constitution and people, and never limit themselves from expressing their critical opinion, that could sometimes even differ from the one of the President!
Mr. Gharibashvili should make apologies for his anti-American statement, which is damaging for our country! It is not permissible that the Defense Minister of the country, which has been on its way toward NATO, makes the statement that distances Georgia from the Euro-Atlantic Perspective!” reads the statement of Armaz Akhvlediani.
