Ukrainian Ambassador: Saakashvili is not an official in Ukraine or part of the executive branch; he is a native Georgian and he will never stop being a Georgian

According to the Ambassador of Ukraine to Georgia Igor Dolgov, the fact that the citizen of Ukraine interferes in the internal political affairs of Georgia is the vision of the Georgian side, while the vision of the Ukrainian side is that Mikheil Saakashvili is not an official in Ukraine, does not represent the country's executive branch, is Georgian and Georgia is an important part of his life.

"As Minister Zalkaliani noted, one of the issues discussed today was the statement of former President of Georgia Mikheil Saakashvili. Ukraine has a vision that Mikheil Saakashvili is not an official in Ukraine or part of the executive branch. He is not a citizen of Georgia, but he is a native Georgian and he will never stop being a Georgian. Of course, Georgia is a very important part of his life and not only of his political life,” Igor Dolgov said.

He also noted that at the high-level meeting with the Minister and the Deputy Minister, discussion was not limited to only one issue.

“We discussed many other issues related to the fight against COVID-19, the current Ministerial of the Eastern Partnership Foreign Ministers, as well as the evacuation of Ukrainian citizens from Georgia and mutual assistance," Igor Dolgov said.

When asked by reporters whether he had received an official invitation letter from the Ministry for today’s meeting, the ambassador said that Georgia and Ukraine were strategic partners and they did not need official letters to meet and discuss important issues.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Georgia summoned the Ambassador of Ukraine to Georgia due to Mikheil Saakashvili's statements, which was “a direct interference of a citizen of Ukraine in Georgia's home affairs”.
