We hope the Georgian government will find the strength to finally break up the plans of revenge-seekers - stated Russian deputy Sergei Gavrilov with regards to the 20 June 2019 developments.
According to him, the protest was organized by Russophobe groups which wanted to destroy democracy in Georgia.
"We hope that the Georgian government will find the strength to finally break up the plans of revenge-seekers who wanted to destroy democracy in Georgia. We don't expect an apology but we think that it would be the right step. The dirty provocators who attempted to destroy our century-long relations should definitely bear the responsibility.
We don't insist on apology; however, we think that an apology towards deputies, including Orthodox European parliamentarians who are the brothers that wanted goodness for Georgia and an apology towards Russia for insulting its president, is an important condition to fully revive our political relations", - stated Gavrilov.
For the record, on 20 June 2019, the protests have erupted in Tbilisi after Sergei Lavrov's visited Georgia and took the seat of the Chairperson of Parliament. The situation became tense at 22:00 after the demonstrators started moving towards the entrance of the Parliament. The special forces used water cannons, tear gas and rubber bullets to disband the protesters. Tens of participants were injured, including the journalists. Due to the developments, the Chairperson Irakli Kobakidze resigned the following day.
