Details are up to the people of Georgia to decide and they will be able to have their voice heard in October, - U.S. Congressman Adam Kinzinger said during a video conference.
When asked about the document signed by 13 Congressmen, in which Bidzina Ivanishvili is described as Putin’s ally, he replied:
“Congress does a lot of reports and passages and bills. And you know, not everything that comes out immediately is read in its entirety until we get a chance to actually peruse it. As you can imagine, when there are so many countries around the world that we have an interest in, and certainly we have many key allies like Georgia, it doesn't mean that all 435 members know everything that comes out at every moment immediately”.
In response to a question asked by InterPressNews about Bidzina Ivanishvili’s role in Georgia, the Congressman said:
“I don't think it's really the role right now we're in, for especially somebody in my position, as one of the heads of the Georgia Caucus and as somebody that's been, you know, really trying to promote democracy in Georgia, to come out and have an opinion on something like this. Look, there are, you know, very difficult situations in Georgia, and there are very difficult situations in the United States of America. All we want is people to work through this. We want people to get an answer and to represent the people of Georgia. So in terms of details, it’s up to the people of Georgia to decide, you know, there's always going to be an aspect of US foreign policy that's interesting. But that's not the role I'm going to play at this moment. And, you know, my simple hope is that we can get through a really difficult time and move forward”, said the Congressman and added that the main thing was not what the “US Congress thinks or what the media in Georgia thinks, not even what Parliament thinks, but what the Georgian people think, and they will be able to have their voice heard in October”.
