Qatar Airways Resumes Weekly Flights to Tbilisi, Georgia from 5 November 2020

Resumption of services to Georgia will see the airline’s global network expand to more than 700 weekly flights across 100 destinations.

The airline’s young, mixed fleet of sustainable aircraft has enabled it to continue flying throughout the crisis and perfectly positions the airline to lead the sustainable recovery of global travel.

Qatar Airways is pleased to announce the resumption of services from Tbilisi, Georgia, with the first service taking off from Tbilisi Airport on 5 November 2020. Qatar Airways continues to lead the recovery of international air travel, offering more global connectivity than any other airline. With the airline’s network never falling below 30 destinations throughout the pandemic, the resumption of services from Georgia will see the airline’s network expand to more than 700 weekly flights across six continents.

Flying to over 100 destinations worldwide, Qatar Airways will operate weekly flights to and from Tbilisi Airport, providing seamless connection from Georgia to the Americas, Africa, and South East Asia regions.

Qatar Airways has been operating in the Georgian market since February 2012. During the pandemic, the airline operated 10 special chartered flights to help local authorities in the repatriation of citizens, fulfilling its promise to bring people home and proving itself as the airline of choice travellers can rely on.

Qatar Airways Vice President for Middle East, Levant and Caucasus region, Bennet Stephens, said: “We are delighted to resume services from Tbilisi, offering passengers once again an unmatched service in the sky. From the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic, we have introduced the stringent measures in existence within the global aviation community including meticulous on-board hygiene and social distancing procedures, and the use of the most advanced HEPA air filtration systems on board our aircraft. The recent introduction of Honeywell’s Ultraviolet Cabin System, operated by Qatar Aviation Services, is an additional step in the cleaning of our aircraft”.

To provide peace of mind when booking travel, Qatar Airways has extended its commitment to offering passengers flexible booking options, now available for all tickets issued before 31 December. If passengers need to change their travel plans, they can hold their ticket value for two years, benefit from unlimited date changes, or exchange their ticket for a future travel voucher with 10% extra value. If passengers have had their travel plans impacted by factors outside their control, they can change their destination – within the same continental region for Qatar Airways Privilege Club members or within the same country or a 500 mile radius for non-members, swap their ticket for Qmiles, or refund their ticket with no fees applied. Since the onset of the pandemic, Qatar Airways has flown over 33 billion revenue passenger kilometers taking home over 2.3 million passengers on over 37,000 flights. The airline has also operated more than 400 charter flights across the world enabling it to stay up to date with the latest airport and national health procedures and maintain a finger on the pulse of global passenger flows, in particular in markets where it does not operate regular scheduled flights.

Qatar Airways’ strategic investment in a variety of fuel-efficient twin-engine aircraft, including the largest fleet of Airbus A350 aircraft, has enabled it to continue flying throughout this crisis and perfectly positions it to lead the sustainable recovery of international travel. By the end of 2020, Qatar Airways’ plans to rebuild its network to more than 125 destinations including 20 in Africa, 11 in the Americas, 41 in Asia-Pacific, 38 in Europe and 15 in Middle East. Many cities will be served with a strong schedule with daily or more frequencies.

Qatar Airways’ operations are not dependent on any specific aircraft type. The airline’s variety of modern fuel-efficient aircraft has meant it can continue flying by offering the right capacity in each market. Due to COVID-19’s impact on travel demand, the airline has taken the decision to ground its fleet of Airbus A380s as it is not commercially or environmentally justifiable to operate such a large aircraft in the current market. The airline’s fleet of 49 Airbus A350 and 30 Boeing 787 are the ideal choice for the most strategically important long-haul routes to Africa, the Americas, Europe, and Asia-Pacific regions.

Qatar Airways’ onboard safety measures for passengers and cabin crew include the provision of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) for cabin crew and a complimentary protective kit and disposable face shields for passengers. Business Class passengers on aircrafts equipped with the Qsuite can enjoy the enhanced privacy this award-winning business class seat provides, including sliding privacy partitions and the option to use a ‘Do Not Disturb (DND)’ indicator. Qsuite is available on flights to more than 30 destinations including Frankfurt, Singapore, London, and New York.
