Stephen Nix: The elections in Georgia failed to meet the new standards set by the constitutional and electoral amendments

According to Stephen Nix, Eurasia Regsion Director of the International Republican Institute, the elections in Georgia failed to meet the new standards set by the constitutional and electoral amendments and reduced public confidence in the election administration.

According to him, it is vital that the Georgian government be able to improve the credibility and transparency of the upcoming elections before the second round and correct the shortcomings that were observed on October 31.

In addition, the International Republican Institute (IRI) has released an interim report of the Technical Election Assessment Mission, which found that despite the October 31 parliamentary elections being conducted in a peaceful manner and in compliance with state law, irregularities in the pre-election period and on the election day negatively affected the overall election process.
