The main starting point will be the right balance between the national interests of the country and the maintenance of good neighborly relations, - the Prime Ministerial candidate Giorgi Gakharia said in response to a question on the delimitation-demarcation of borders at the plenary session of Parliament.

According to him, 2021 and 2022 will be active years in this direction.

"For all normal countries, border delimitation is one of the most important components of sovereignty, independence and security. Of course, it is reasonable that this is a priority of our government and will remain so for these 4 years. But the main starting point here will be the right balance first and foremost between maintaining the country's national interests and good neighborly relations. It will not be easy, but I promise that the commission within the Ministry of Foreign Affairs that covers these issues will be highly active in the years to come. 2021 and probably 2022 will be the most active years in this direction. If we want to minimize risks in the region, especially when new players are emerging in our region, demarcation-delimitation of the border is one of the most potentially risky issues, so all normal players, peace-loving players in the region are interested in solving this problem quickly. Of course, this is first and foremost the national interests of our country," Gakharia said.
