Nino Ananiashvili to lead Novosibirsk Ballet in Russia

Georgian prima ballerina Nino Ananiashvili will lead the Novosibirsk Ballet in Russia. As Nino Ananiashvili stated in an interview with Radio Liberty, she expects that there will be an "attack" on her regarding this decision, for which she is ready.

According to Ananiashvili, she also remains the head of the Georgian State Ballet. She said that her husband, Grigol Vashadze, was "not happy" about her decision.

"It was a very difficult decision and he was not happy at all. Firstly because I will be less at home. However, we have our spheres. I never interfere in politics, he makes his own political decisions and sometimes I am not even aware of it. This is my life today, my profession, art. I want to do more for our country with this profession," Ananiashvili said.

According to her, she does not think that Russia will use her decision for propaganda.

"No, I do not think so. You know I always have relationships with the stars of the Russian Big Theater. I'm not really doing anything weird with this decision, other than giving myself more headache. To be honest, Grigoli was not happy with this decision, but I explained to him that today this is a solution. Other theaters are closed. What I have done so far is not enough," Nino Ananiashvili said.

According to her, she expects criticism.

"Yes, I expect criticism, but no matter where I will be, I will not change my political views, and I have talked about it a lot. I have not had a performance there for 15 years. But I still consider all this beyond the political situation. I know I will be criticized, but I danced in Russia, I was a Russian ballerina, but I have never lost my love for Georgia because of that. Now probably everyone will forget everything”, she said.

At the same time, the prima ballerina explained that her decision is not linked with the resignation of Grigol Vashadze from the chairmanship of the National Movement.
