Armaz Akhvlediani, an elected member of parliament signed the EU-brokered agreement at the EU Delegation Office. As Akhvlediani told reporters, a new phase of the struggle is beginning, which is guaranteed by the European Union and the United States.
"What the opposition has done so far is unprecedented in the history of Georgia. We have received an incredible document from Charles Michel.
I am sure European Georgia, a member of which I was when being elected as an MP, will join the beginning of this new wave today or tomorrow. Why? - Because there is no alternative to it. The guarantee of this is the European Union and the United States," Akhvlediani said.
European Council President Charles Michel made a new proposal to the Georgian Dream and the opposition two days ago. EU Ambassador to Georgia Carl Hartzell invited all elected Members of Parliament of Georgia to sign the agreement at the EU Delegation office today.
According to the mediators' document, the persons assessed as political prisoners should be released within a week after the signing of the agreement between the government and the opposition. In addition, according to Charles Michel, early elections in Georgia should be called in 2022 if the Georgian Dream gets less than 43% of votes in the local elections.
