We have a shameful court - the judge found the perpetrators of the attack on the journalist and his family members guilty, but released them, - journalist Vakho Sanaia said in connection with the verdict delivered by Tbilisi City Court.
According to him, the unified system and the government, the Georgian Dream expelled the perpetrators.
"The court did what we had expected. They could announce the decision in July, but they delayed it deliberately until the end of August, which is exactly six months after the incident. The judge found them guilty but released them. We have a shameful court. It creates a syndrome of impunity in this country and it led to the murder of our colleague on July 5. The judge who released these people today will be an example of impunity and will be contagious to others. They need the family of one of the perpetrators, Gigauri, for the elections, because he is a member of Gega Gegeshidze’s family, who was involved in the Kortskheli events. The system and the Georgian Dream released offenders," Vakho Sanaia said.Tbilisi City Court found all three people accused of assaulting journalist Vakho Sanaia - Vazha Gigauri, Suliko Sakevarashvili and Giorgi Sakhelashvili - guilty and sentenced them to 6 months in prison, although the term expires today. Accordingly, according to the decision made by the judge, all three persons will be released today.
Law enforcers detained 3 people for persecuting and threatening Vakho Sanaia due to his professional activities. They were charged under Article 156, Part 2, Subparagraph A, Article 151, Part 1 and Article 126, Part 1 of the Criminal Code of Georgia, which provide for imprisonment for up to 3 years.
