Mikheil Saakashvili says he is ready to call off his hunger strike if taken to “proper clinic for rehabilitation”

Former President of Georgia Mikheil Saakashvili is ready to call off his hunger strike, but on a certain condition.

As his lawyer, Nika Gvaramia, told reporters, Saakashvili is considering the calls of the Strasbourg Court and Western partners, but he has a condition. He will call off his hunger strike if he is taken to a proper medical facility for his rehabilitation.

"I have decided to consider the call of the Strasbourg Court of Human Rights, as well as our Western partners, and call off the hunger strike. However, I will call it off on a certain condition.

The process of rehabilitation after hunger strike is much more complicated than the process of hunger management. Gldani Hospital has neither the technological conditions nor the qualified medical staff. In addition, it is unthinkable to trust the staff of the institution who tortures me and you saw the footage showing their violence today. In addition, here is no guarantee of safety or protection from psychological pressure, which is also a requirement of the Strasbourg Court. I also consider Gori Hospital to be the biggest threat, because the occupation army and special forces of Russia, which ordered my liquidation, are located a few kilometers away. Accordingly, I request that the medical council decide which multifunctional and high-tech clinics and which method of treatment I will be provided with during the rehabilitation process. The council should be composed of professionals and on a parity basis, with equal representation of my representatives and state-appointed doctors. Its decision should be not of a recommendatory nature, but obligatory, which I will obey unconditionally and the government will obey as well. In this situation, as soon as this decision is made and I am transferred from this institution to an appropriate institution, I will immediately call off my hunger strike," reads Saakashvili's letter.
