According to the fourth president of Georgia, Giorgi Margvelashvili, Mikheil Saakashvili is a personal prisoner of Putin. Margvelashvili told journalists about it after visiting Saakashvili in a military hospital in Gori.
As Margvelashvili noted, it is Putin's personal interest that Saakashvili be "arrested and locked up by Georgians."
"The person who is in prison here is Putin's prisoner for me, and we have to face up to this. He is one of the prominent figures in the fight against Putin in Georgia, a politician not only in the context of Georgia, but also in other respects. No matter how much we disagree with each other, in the past or in the future, it is in Putin's main interest to have this person arrested and locked up by Georgians. This is my personal assessment of this situation, especially after we talked," Margvelashvili said.
At the same time, Margvelashvili noted that the goal of the Georgian Dream and Bidzina Ivanishvili may not be to detain Mikheil Saakashvili at all. "But the only actor in this whole process, for whom it is only a success and brings positive, at the same time, at no cost, is Russia and Putin. I accept the possibility that it's not in the interest of Georgian Dream to have such a hotbed of tension, but the one who really benefits from it and like it is our country's northern neighbor," Margvelashvili said.
The fourth president also spoke about the need for a meeting of the three presidents and noted that the format of the meeting of the three presidents should send a message to the Georgian people that we will be united against a common confrontation, a common enemy.
"We both agree that Georgia is facing a very serious challenge. We consider that the unification of presidents and commanders-in-chief and the lowering of the temperature in terms of internal confrontation, initiated by Salome Zurabishvili, are highly welcome, timely and needs to be supported. In this regard, we have reiterated and expressed both the readiness that when we talk about turning a new page, creating a new tradition, preparing for new challenges, it would be natural to hold a three-president format. The format of the three presidents, despite all the differences in the attitude of all three towards each other, should send a message to the Georgian people that we will always unite and be united against a common confrontation, a common enemy, despite maintaining differences and possibly different political preferences," said Margvelashvili.
