Shalva Papuashvili: Do you want to show what is happening here now to the Ambassador of Ukraine?! You want to insult your colleagues in the presence of the Ambassador of Ukraine, you will not be able to do this

Speaker of Parliament Shalva Papuashvili did not grant the opposition's request for the invitation of the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Ukraine Igor Dolgov to the plenary session.

A similar position was expressed by Nikoloz Samkharadze, Chairman of the Foreign Relations Committee.

Opposition MP Salome Samadashvili raised the issue of participation of the Ukrainian diplomat in the March 1 plenary session. As she noted, the German Bundestag deemed it necessary to applaud the Ambassador of Ukraine for 10 minutes, to encourage him and thus show support to the Ukrainian people, and it would be good if the same thing happened in the Parliament of Georgia.

In response, Shalva Papuashvili explained that he had already met with Ukrainian Ambassador Igor Dolgov to discuss the Ukrainian developments and accused the opposition of wanting to stage performances and shows. In this context, Papuashvili also noted that the opposition demanded the invitation of the Ambassador to the session through an incorrect procedure.

"Do you want to show what is happening here now to the Ambassador of Ukraine?! Has your behavior has anything to do with solidarity?! Is this what you want to show to the Ambassador of Ukraine tomorrow?! You want to insult your colleagues in the presence of the Ambassador of Ukraine. You will not be able to do this. The Ukrainian people do not deserve to see such behavior in the Parliament of Georgia, which, unfortunately, will be in the Parliament tomorrow. When Ukrainian citizens are in bunkers, fighting and losing loved ones every day, there is no place for a circus show at the plenary session”, said Papuashvili.

Nikoloz Samkharadze, Chairman of the Foreign Relations Committee, did not share the initiative of the opposition either. He told the opposition that they wanted to do the same tomorrow.
