Sergei Shamba: There is no sentiment to join Russia in our political circles or in the society of Abkhazia - we have paid a high price for independence

The unification of "South Ossetia" with North Ossetia is the national dream of the Ossetian people, and Abkhazia supports this aspiration of the people of the brotherly republic, the so-called secretary of the security council of occupied Abkhazia, Sergei Shamba said in connection with the statement of the de facto leader of occupied Tskhinvali region Anatoly Bibilov. According to Bibilov, "South Ossetia will soon take legal steps to join the Russian Federation."

Shamba says there is nothing surprising about "the desire to unite one people." As for the possibility of uniting occupied Abkhazia with Russia, he added that "such sentiments do not exist either in political circles or in Abkhazian society."

"First of all, our constitution and legislation do not allow it and there is no such sentiment in the society regarding joining the Russian Federation. We have paid a high price for independence, it is the result of the long struggle of several generations of our people. So this issue is not being discussed in our circles," he said.

According to Shamba, he does not know of any political forces, parties or social movements in Abkhazia that would say no to independence.

The so-called secretary of the Abkhaz security council also said that Abkhazia's relations with Russia, which is an ally and strategic partner, should be developed.
