Director Temur Chkheidze passes away

Georgian director Temur Chkheidze passed away at the age of 78. The information is spread by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Youth of Georgia.

Temur Chkheidze has been engaged in directing for many years in many famous theaters in Georgia and abroad, and not only in the theater. In 1965-1967 he was the director of the Zugdidi Drama Theater, in 1967-1970 he worked in the Theater for Young Audiences, in 1970-1980 he was the director of the Rustaveli Theater, and in 1980-1990 he was the director of the Marjanishvili Theater. In 1981-1988 he was the artistic director of the Georgian Television Theater. Temur Chkheidze has been the director of the St. Petersburg Grand Drama Theater since 1991, the main director since 2004, and the artistic director from 2007-2013.

Temur Chkheidze was also engaged in educational activities, since 1969 was a teacher of acting and directing at Tbilisi State Theater University.

The director has staged about 80 dramatic, operatic and television performances.

Temur Chkheidze has received numerous important awards and prizes for his many years of service and great merit, including: People's Artist of Georgia (1981); Order of Merit; Golden Grand Prix; Shota Rustaveli State Award; Kote Marjanishvili Award; Mikheil Tumanishvili Award; Georgian Theatrical Award Golden Mask (two-time winner), Award Knight of Georgian Art; Title of Honorary Citizen of Tbilisi (2010); Ilia Medal (2013); St. Petersburg Theatrical Award Golden Mask; St. Petersburg Higher Theatrical Award Golden Soffit and many others.
