According to the Minister of Health, Zurab Azarashvili, the director of the National Center for Disease Control, Amiran Gamkrelidze, is leaving his position with dignity and this is not related to "the period before the pandemic or the events taking place during the pandemic".

"Yesterday we had a conversation. Amiran Gamkrelidze has great merit to the country and people. He has been in this system since the early 90s. In the coming days, he will apply to the Ministry with the relevant application. Tamar Gabunia will fulfill his duties.
