Minister of Health says Amiran Gamkrelidze is leaving National Center for Disease Control

According to the Minister of Health, Zurab Azarashvili, the director of the National Center for Disease Control, Amiran Gamkrelidze, is leaving his position with dignity and this is not related to "the period before the pandemic or the events taking place during the pandemic".

As the Minister said on PalitraNews TV, the above is Amiran Gamkrelidze’s personal decision.

"Yesterday we had a conversation. Amiran Gamkrelidze has great merit to the country and people. He has been in this system since the early 90s. We had a conversation yesterday about whether he was considering a replacement. I can confirm that we had a similar conversation. In the coming days, he will apply to the Ministry with the relevant application. Tamar Gabunia will fulfill his duties. All this has nothing to do with the pre-pandemic period or the events during the pandemic. He served his country with dignity and is leaving his post with dignity," the Minister noted.
