Georgian Dream departees: American funding in Georgia is not aimed at strengthening the democratic system, but at undermining it

The public movement "People's Power" publishes a statement and calls on the United States Embassy to disclose detailed information related to the funding of Georgia.

According to the statement of the former Georgian Dream MPs, the American funding is not aimed at strengthening the democratic system in Georgia, but rather at undermining it.

"During the last months, the American Embassy often reminds us that its state has helped Georgia with 6 billion dollars over the past 30 years. When you are given something as a gift, you should not enter into the discussion of the real value of this gift, as a rule. However, we all understand very well that the United States of America is not a charity organization, therefore, it does not gift anything to anyone, and when allocating money to other countries, it acts according to its own interests. Therefore, the main thing that the public should be interested in is the purpose for which the American government allocated funds to Georgia and why we are reminded so often today about the so-called 6 billion aid.

For example, if we are reminded of this financing as a counterbalance to the interest of opening a second front in Georgia, it is clear that no amount of 6 billion can replace the damage that our country may receive from the war with Russia. We all remember that during the 2008 war, Georgia suffered several billion dollars in losses, along with lost territories and human casualties.

If they tell us that the country was financed with several billions to strengthen democracy, we cannot even make a serious comment about it. The model of democracy, which the Americans reminded us very hard on the example of Saakashvili's regime, has a completely different essence in its content, but we will not stop at this model today and we will save this topic for the future.

Georgia is considered for a certain role, which it must play at the behest of the Embassy, and the most interesting thing is to analyze this role. The fact is that our only function for them is to contain Russia. They have been preparing Ukraine and Georgia for this function for years, however, the Georgian government did not go to destroy the country, for which the Americans cannot forgive us.

In terms of funding, several factors are particularly interesting:

According to the official data published by the Americans, the American financing of Georgia over the course of 30 years, contrary to what the Ambassador said, was not more than 6 billion dollars, but 4.5 billion, of which only 3.5 billion was actually transferred to Georgia; In 2013-2021, i.e. after Georgian Dream came to power, the American funding amounted to only 1.15 billion dollars, of which more than 200 million was the residual amount of special funding allocated for the partial liquidation of the severe consequences of the 2008 war. For comparison, during the authoritarian regime of Saakashvili, the United States of America financed the Georgian government with 2.23 billion dollars, i.e, twice more. Of these, the largest amounts were allocated in 2006 (411 million) and 2009 (625 million); A significant part of the American money - more than 700 million dollars was spent on the activities of NGOs, including campaigns against the state and the church. In the last few years, the largest share of American funding comes to NGOs, that is, essentially, the maintenance of an American spies, which, to put it mildly, cannot be considered as assistance to Georgia; During the past years, in accordance with the standard set by the Americans, the government of Georgia allocated 2 percent of the state budget for defense, which naturally puts a serious burden on the country. Most importantly, more than 30,000 Georgian soldiers served in the missions of Iraq and Afghanistan, thus the United States of America received exactly 2.5 billion dollars worth of support from Georgia (if we multiply the amount spent by the Americans on one American soldier by the number of Georgian soldiers, we will get exactly 2.5 billion dollars).

Naturally, we do not say anything about the human sacrifice made by Georgia, which is priceless. Considering all this, the question is whether Georgia has received more material benefits from America or America from Georgia since 2013.

If any of the data provided by us is inaccurate, we call on the Embassy to publish detailed information about the principle and purpose of American funding to Georgia in the past years, including how much money actually remained in Georgia and how much money was returned to America. Unfortunately, the information published by the Embassy so far is very scarce and does not give the Georgian society a clear idea about the details of the financing, which deepens our negative suspicions even more.

The public remembers well how they blackmailed the Georgian authorities last year by not allocating a 75-million loan from the European Union. If the American financing would bring any serious results for the state and its economic strengthening, it is natural that we would have been threatened to stop it more than once. If this does not happen, it is an additional proof for us that the largest part of the financing is neither intended for the development of the country nor for the strengthening of the political system, and it is mostly used for pursuing American interests in Georgia. The exception was several components of funding - for example, funds allocated for the implementation of small-scale economic projects, funding for students' studies in the United States of America, as well as funding allocated under the line of the Millennium Fund, which was used in the field of education (however, what did the American intervention in education bring our country in general - we will not dwell on this today and we will open this topic at the latest).

All the circumstances explained by us indicate that the Americans do not make real investments in the development of Georgia, and moreover, they received material benefits worth 2.5 billion dollars from Georgia. We have already said that the American financing in Georgia is not aimed at strengthening the democratic system, but at undermining it, and we will provide much more information about this to the public later.

Finally, we would once again like to ask the Embassy what its main strategic task is when it allocates funds for Georgia and determines the purpose of this funding. It will be interesting if the Embassy, in the context of its strategic task, presents to the Georgian society detailed information about the purpose of the allocated funds. We are sure that if the public receives such detailed information, it will become clear to them that when allocating funding, the Americans are not driven by the motive of charity and promoting the well-being of the population of Georgia, but by the interest of expanding the influence of their own agents, who should turn Georgia, together with Ukraine, into a blind co-executor of the global American scenario.

We once again call on the American Embassy to be more transparent and disclose detailed information related to funding. However, we have little reason for optimism, because we know for sure that the disclosure of this information will strengthen the disturbing conclusions we have drawn in the perception of the Georgian society," the statement reads.
