The Court of Appeal upheld the decision of the City Court in the case of Mamuka Khazaradze, Badri Japaridze and Avtandil Tsereteli

The Court of Appeal found Mamuka Khazaradze, Badri Japaridze and Avtandil Tsereteli guilty of group fraud, thereby upholding the decision made by the city court.

The decision of the Tbilisi City Court was appealed by both the defense and the prosecution.

The lawyers were demanding the acquittal, while the Prosecutor's Office was demanding to change the qualifications and to declare all three persons guilty of money laundering.

We remind you that the accused in the so-called money laundering case - Mamuka Khazaradze, Badri Japaridze and Avtandil Tsereteli were found guilty by the Tbilisi City Court. However, the judge changed the qualification of the article to all three of them and found them guilty of group fraud and each of them was sentenced to 7 years in prison, but because of the statute of limitations, they were exempted from the sentence.

Mamuka Khazaradze and Badri Japaridze were indicted on July 24, 2019 for the fact of legalization of illegal income of 16,664,000 US dollars as a group, which was accompanied by the receipt of a particularly large amount of income.

As for Avtandil Tsereteli, the Prosecutor's Office charged him with helping Japaridze and Khazaradze in legalizing illegal income.
