Peter Stano: With one single law, Georgia managed to infringe on two out of the 12 priorities - it is obvious why the EU has reacted

According to the spokesperson of the EEAS, Peter Stano, when the EU reacted to the law on foreign agents in Georgia, it had a simple reason, because Georgia is a country that has shown interest and applied for membership. Peter Stano stated this in response to a journalist's question about why the European Union had a reaction to the foreign agent bill initiated in Georgia and why there is no similar reaction to the judicial reform initiated in Israel.

According to Stano, the EU responded Georgia's application by acknowledging it and defining 12 priorities that Georgia has to fulfill in order to be in discussions and considerations for the candidate status of the European Union. Stano added that with one single law, Georgia managed to infringe on two out of the 12 priorities which, so it is obvious why the EU has reacted.

As for the judicial reform in Israel, according to Stano, the European Union is following it very closely and sees that there is a very lively discussion on the proposed reform.

For information, about 500,000 people demonstrated against judicial reform in Israel. According to the media, this is the largest protest in the country's history. The protest has been going on for weeks.
