Counter-terrorist system, with participation of State Security Service, identifies Islamic State activities in various foreign countries, one citizen of a foreign country arrested

As a result of the operations carried out with the participation of the State Security Service of Georgia and the competent agencies involved in the national counter-terrorist system, activities of the terrorist organization Islamic State have been revealed in the territory of various foreign countries. One citizen of a foreign country has been arrested, Bacha Mgeladze, Acting Director of the Counter-Terrorist Center of the State Security Service, said at the briefing held in the State Security Service.

According to him, as a result of the complex counter-terrorist activities, materials and evidence were obtained, which indicate the terrorist activities in foreign countries.

"We obtained a device carrying electronic information, from which satellite photos of strategic objects of the United States of America and European capitals were seized. Within the scope of large-scale counter-terrorist measures, persons in contact with the terrorist organization, forms of communication, methods, areas of interest and possible attack objects outside Georgia were identified. Due to international terrorist risks, according to the decision of the State Security Service, the information obtained within the framework of the investigation ongoing into the criminal case was promptly shared with Georgia's international partners and neighboring countries, including Turkey. Moreover, at this stage, the Service is actively conducting operational-search, investigative and covert investigative activities. The State Security Service of Georgia continues its uncompromising fight against international terrorism. Georgia remains one of the reliable partners of the international counter-terrorist system. At the same time, we categorically deny the information spread in foreign media about the existence of military training bases for terrorist purposes in the territory of Georgia," said Mgeladze.
