After several days of discussion, Parliament adopted the "Defense Code" in the second reading.
After the article-by-article discussion, the "Defense Code" project was supported by 79 votes. 6 deputies voted against. The legislative package consists of 46 bills.
The legislative package was presented at the plenary session by the Deputy Minister of Defense Grigol Giorgadze. According to his assessment, the amendments prepared by the Ministry of Defense represent the most important reform, as they fundamentally change and make the military service fully adapted to the goals of defense, introduce the most important guarantees of social security for the military and create effective legal bases for defense organization and compatibility with NATO.
"The "Defense Code" has been under development for several years. The code has become like a child for our agency. A lot of work went into its development - it's not like the law was just written. Those who are supporters of strengthening Georgia's defense capability were involved in it as much as possible," Giorgadze said at the plenary session of the Parliament.
The Parliament will return to the "Defence Code" project in the fall session. It is to be adopted in the third reading in September.
