The area of search and rescue activities in the disaster area has been expanded. The Ministry of Defense of Georgia disseminates information about this.

According to the Mnistry, in parallel with the landslide-affected area, search activities are underway in the beds of rivers Chanchakha and Rioni.

"In order to increase the effectiveness of the search activities, 18 groups consisting of National Guard soldiers, reservists and rescuers from the Emergency Management Service of the Ministry of Internal Affairs have been deployed at a distance of 54 kilometers from Shovi. Each group, consisting of four people, carries out monitoring and search operations of riverbeds at a distance of three kilometers.

At the site of the disaster, the personnel of the 3rd infantry brigade and the combat-engineering battalion of the Eastern command are carrying out the search operations with special equipment and means of the army logistics support command," reads the information.

A landslide occurred in Shovi on August 3. According to the latest official reports, 24 people died in the disaster, 9 are missing.
