From July 1, 2024, the non-electronic (so-called laminated) identity cards of Georgian citizens, which were issued before July 28, 2011, will no longer be valid.

The draft law prepared in this regard will be submitted to the Bureau of the Parliament on December 4. The initiators of the project are Georgian Dream MPs.

According to the said project, it is determined that the same identification data of the relevant person will be added to the new ID cards issued to the holders of the mentioned ID cards.

"The goal of the project is to give the citizens of Georgia additional motivation to replace the aforementioned non-electronic identity cards with electronic identity cards of Georgian citizens - ID-cards - which, in turn, will contribute to the proper conduct of the next and every subsequent election," reads the explanatory note of the draft law.

It should be noted that currently the Parliament is considering the draft, according to which the voter will preserve the right to vote in elections with the so-called laminated ID card.
