Everything that is written in the conclusion of HRW is true and will stop when we have a truly democratic government. Now we have a Russian regime in power. Accordingly, when the government changes, then this status and these remarks will change for the better, - said Davit Khajishvili, a member of the "United National Movement" parliamentary faction, in connection with the HRW report.
According to him, human rights will be protected in Georgia when there is a democratic government in the country.
"I will be very brief in this answer because we will protect human rights when there is a truly democratic government in Georgia. Today we do not have a democratic government. Unfortunately, we are not a fully democratic country when we have the Russian regime in power. Therefore, when the government changes, then this status and these notes will change for the better. We know very well, both inside and outside the country, that this was Russian law. Our friends from a number of countries, and first of all, the USA, said that this is not an American law, it is a Russian law. Of course, it was directed against our population, so we all defended together. The reason why so many people came out and defended their rights was because it was a law directed against them, and therefore, of course, no matter what comments "Georgian Dream" makes about it now, that it was not the case, we all know very well that this law was directed against our population, so that there would be more restrictions on our population, there would be less democracy, and everything written in this conclusion is true. I will repeat once more, this will stop when the government changes and it will happen in 2024", said Davit Khajishvili.
For reference, according to the Human Rights Watch report, the Georgian government tried to pass a law on "foreign agents" that would undermine freedom of expression - the human rights situation remained uneven in 2023, and politics was dominated by tension.
