An Open Letter from Georgian Authors

An Open Letter from Georgian Authors
twitter

We, the authors of Georgia, address the public, media, and all interested institutions involved in current developments in the sphere of copyright. Over the years, we have observed the governance within the Georgian Copyright Association (GCA), led by Giga Kobaladze. Following an audit, it became evident that the association has significantly deviated from its intended purpose, indulging in arbitrary distribution of honors and funds among authors. Consequently, we express our strong objection to these irregularities and have petitioned the prosecutor's office to investigate the matter thoroughly to ensure justice and prevent any recurrence of such misconduct.

In recent days, we have retrieved comprehensive information regarding the operational activities of the association and promptly provided relevant feedback.

With specific groups of GCA supporters advocating for the legitimate actions of Giga Kobaladze and diverging from the interests of our association, we reaffirm our stance against any such manipulation. Kobaladze continues to exert influence over his members and exploit their personal interests. In an attempt to maintain our integrity, we strive to uphold the interests of Georgian authors.

We formally announce our affiliation with the Intellectual Property Owners Association (IPOA), a credentialed association dedicated to safeguarding our interests and fostering collective action among Georgian authors. We represent over 400 signatories, including more than a thousand members of our association.

Firstly, we emphasize the importance of safeguarding authors' rights, depoliticizing the process, and rectifying any errors within the public domain.

Secondly, unlike the few supporting artists of Giga Kobaladze, we have never insulted the members of our association. Kobaladze continues to deceive and use its members for personal interests. In order to cover up his crime, he is trying to create controversy among Georgian artists.

Thirdly, we declare with full responsibility that the GCA is no longer a collective management association. Its successor, the only accredited association, is the IPOA.

Finally, We respectfully ask the international community to consider the points raised above and not to be misled by the misinformation spread by Giga Kobaladze.
