The Venice Commission concludes that the restrictions established by the "Law on Foreign Agents" adopted in Georgia are incompatible with the strict criteria established by the "European Convention on Human Rights" and the "Pact of Civil and Political Rights", - the European Parliamentarian Petras Auštrevičius writes about this on X.
According to him, "it is a Russian law!"
"The Venice Commission concludes that the restrictions established by the Law on Foreign Agents adopted in Georgia are incompatible with the strict criteria established by the European Convention on Human Rights and the Covenant on Civil and Political Rights and do not meet the requirements of legality, legitimacy and necessity in a democratic society. It is a Russian law!", - writes Petras Austrevichus.
As a reminder, the Venice Commission publishes an urgent opinion on the draft law "On transparency of foreign influence".
The Venice Commission strongly recommends that the "Foreign Influence Transparency" bill be recalled in its current form.
The commission's conclusion states that the draft law will ultimately affect open, informed public debate, pluralism and democracy.
