Judoka Lasha Bekauri is a two-time Olympic champion. He defeated the Japanese Sanshiro Murao in the final and brought the first gold medal to the Georgian national team.

Bekauri beat Japan's Sanshiro Murao 2:1 with a vazar 4 seconds before the end of the main time.
