The European Union condemns the hasty adoption of the legislative package "On Family Values ​​and Protection of Minors" in the second reading, said Peter Stano, the press-speaker of the High Representative of the European Union.

The statement mentions that the package undermines the fundamental rights of the population of Georgia and creates a threat of strengthening stigmatization and discrimination of a part of the population.

"The European Union expresses concern that the legislation with significant consequences on the path of integration with the European Union was adopted without proper public consultations and a thorough analysis of compliance with European and international standards.

Ensuring and protecting human rights is at the heart of the EU's enlargement process, as assessed annually in the European Commission's enlargement report.

The European Union calls on the Georgian authorities to completely revise this legislative package. Such a project, together with the restrictions imposed by the Law on "Transparency of Foreign Influence" towards the civil society, will further strain the EU-Georgia relations.
