Joining the European Union is voluntary, no one is forced to join the European Union, the German ambassador to Georgia, Peter Fischer, told journalists.

When asked what will happen if Georgia and the next government turn its back on the EU and whether you have the tools to bring Georgia back to that course, the ambassador answered:

"Joining the European Union is voluntary, no one is forced to join the European Union. Georgia applied to join the European Union. If you turn your face - you will, then you will not be a member of the European Union", said the ambassador.

Speaking about the October 26 elections, Peter Fisher emphasized that the choice should be made by the Georgian people.

"The choice should be made by the Georgian people. You have to decide what kind of government you want to have in the future and what direction you want the country to go. It is entirely up to you," the ambassador said.

Michał Kobosko - we hope that your government eventually would either choose the European way, the democratic way or would resign seeing the number, the size and scale of the citizens' protests
