Sergey Shamba, the so-called foreign minister of occupied Abkhazia, stated that if Georgia apologizes for its actions, Abkhazia would view it as a positive first step toward reconciliation. According to reports from Abkhazian media, Shamba made this comment during a meeting with the co-chairmen of the Geneva International Discussions.
Shamba emphasized that for any progress to occur, Georgia must abandon terms such as "occupied territories," which, according to him, hinder the regulation of relations between the two sides. He firmly reiterated that the political status of Abkhazia is non-negotiable and not up for discussion.
During the meeting, the Abkhazian side also raised the topic of resuming the Incident Prevention and Response Mechanism (IPRM) meetings in Gali, a process that has been instrumental in addressing security issues in the region.
