The Central Election Commission does not consider the issue of canceling the polling station in Israel at this stage.
Giorgi Kalandarishvili, the chairman of the Central Election Commission, made the relevant statement at the session of the CEC. He introduced to his colleagues the appeal of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to the CEC, where the agency asks the institution to close the polling station in Israel due to the safety of Georgian citizens.
"The Ministry of Foreign Affairs appealed to the CEC to provide us with information regarding the current situation in Israel, which is related to the existence of an election precinct in Tel Aviv. The mentioned letter provided us with information about the circumstances and risks that exist in the country today and which, among them, may exist in relation to the day of voting. Here we are talking about the fact that in the event of an alarm signal, it is mandatory to place persons in the so-called in cover. It is also mentioned about the circumstance when, on October 1, during the bombing, the employees of the embassy had to stay in the protected room. It is also noteworthy that the alarm signal may be repeated several times. Since the risks and circumstances are identified. Obviously, this in turn means that if the polling station is maintained as it is, the alarm may theoretically be declared several times on the voting day, which may make it impossible to fully implement and conduct the voting day. There are 15 days left before the elections. It is always possible to cancel the precinct, it will not be possible to restore or return the precinct. Therefore, I consider it expedient for the commission to continue its activities at this stage", said Kalandarishvili.
