Head of the President's Administration: We call on the CEC to immediately make a decision on the opening of the polling station in Strasbourg and to facilitate the emigrants to exercise their right guaranteed by the constitution without hindrance

We call on the CEC to immediately make a decision on the opening of the polling station in Strasbourg and to facilitate the emigrants to exercise their right to vote guaranteed by the constitution, - said the statement of the head of the administration of the President of Georgia, Natia Sulava.

According to Natia Sulava, the polling station should be opened in Strasbourg, because thousands of Georgian citizens live in Strasbourg and at least 400 Georgian citizens are registered in the consular register, and most importantly, there is a diplomatic representation of Georgia in Strasbourg."Today, the Central Election Commission made a decision regarding the opening of 7 new election precincts abroad. It should be noted that today's decision of the CEC does not respond in any way to the request of thousands of immigrants to open polling stations in the big cities of Europe and the United States of America.

At today's CEC session, the issue of opening a polling station in the French city of Strasbourg was also discussed, although the commission did not approve this issue.

It should be noted that the requests of thousands of emigrants, which were sent to the CEC and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, were rejected, and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs cited the fact that opening a branch abroad is possible only in the diplomatic mission of Georgia. One of the reasons for the refusal was the security issue.

The President of Georgia met several times with the ambassadors of Europe and the United States of America in Georgia, including the ambassador of France, and received full support from the ambassadors regarding the opening of additional districts.

Based on the fact that thousands of citizens live in Strasbourg, and based on the fact that at least 400 citizens of Georgia are on consular registration from Strasbourg, and most importantly, there is a diplomatic representation of Georgia in Strasbourg, we call on the CEC to immediately make a decision on the opening of a polling station in Strasbourg and with this decision to support our Immigrants should exercise their right to vote, guaranteed by the constitution," the statement said.
