Chairman of the CEC on the request to open a polling station in Strasbourg: the institution is guided by the information provided by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and not on the basis of the president or any other institution

The institution is guided by the information provided by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and not on the basis of the president or any other institution, - this is how the CEC chairman Giorgi Kalandarishvili responded to the call of the president's administration regarding the opening of the polling station in the city of Strasbourg.

The Chairman of the Central Election Commission called as manipulative the statements that there is a space to open an election precinct in Strasbourg and the Central Election Commission is not doing it.

According to Kalandarishvili, wherever there was an opportunity to open an additional polling station, the CEC took appropriate measures.

"The institution is guided by the information provided by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and not on the basis of the president or any other institution, and this is the reservation that is necessary for the creation of an election precinct, therefore, wherever such information was provided to us, of course, the institution acted according to the law and made the appropriate decision and I will tell you more that if it were not for the CEC members' proper support regarding this decision, 65,000 voters in 60 polling stations in 42 countries would not have participated in the elections. In addition, the fact that the CEC always acts and will act according to the legislation is evidenced by yesterday's decision of the CEC, according to which we made a decision regarding the creation of 7 additional election precincts based on the provision of exceptionally updated information, which is very important. In addition, as an indication that the CEC is committed to offering equal services and ensuring that the law is properly enforced, and at the same time, to protect polling stations as much as possible from the risk of cancellation, we made a decision yesterday, according to which, in the event that human resources, the number of members of the commission falls below a certain minimum number, there should be an opportunity for the remaining number to be converted into special groups and they will serve our dear voters abroad. These are all aspects that indicate that the CEC acts according to the law and the highest interests of the voters, and at the same time, I would like to provide you with additional information that we, in relation to Strasbourg, because of the manipulations on this issue, have applied for an explanation of the reasons and the first First of all, about the status of the location, which has come under some attention, and I would like to note that according to the information provided by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, it is established that it is a permanent representation in an international organization and a corresponding diplomatic representative in the consular direction cannot be located there, which in turn has become The basis that in the case of France only provided the former Paris electoral district. Today, we see many manipulative statements from many involved parties that there is a space for the opening of a polling station in Strasbourg, while we can directly say that this is only an attempt to move the issue from the legal to the political space and to use the institution only with baseless motives. Pressure and creating a perception as if the institution has the ability and it does not create a polling station in Strasbourg. Whenever there was a possibility, we took protective measures," Kalandarishvili said.

For information, the administration of the President of Georgia issued a statement calling on the CEC to immediately make a decision on the opening of the polling station in Strasbourg and to facilitate the emigrants to exercise their right to vote guaranteed by the constitution.
