Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Germany, Anna Lührmann: We support Georgia’s EU accession, but the current government creates obstacles

Anna Lührmann, Germany’s Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs for European and Climate Affairs, reiterated Germany's support for Georgia’s integration into the European Union, while criticizing the current Georgian government for creating barriers on this path.

"It is quite clear that we support Georgia on its way to join the European Union, although this does not apply to the current government of Georgia, which creates obstacles to this path," Lührmann said. She emphasized that the Georgian people must have the right to freely decide their own future, underscoring the importance of free and fair elections.

Lührmann also mentioned that the current situation in Georgia would be discussed at the European Union's Foreign Affairs Ministerial meeting in Luxembourg. Her comments, originally in German, were translated by Georgia’s public broadcaster.
