Reuters: EU leaders plan to warn Georgia that its government is threatening the country's path to the EU

European Union leaders plan to warn Georgia that its government threatens the country's path to the European Union, Reuters reports, based on the text of the draft conclusions of the European Council summit scheduled for October 17-18.

According to Reuters, the draft conclusions prepared for the summit of European Union leaders to be held in Brussels on October 17-18 states that "the European Union confirms its readiness to support the Georgian people on the European path, but once again expresses its serious concern about the actions taken by the Georgian authorities." The European Council points out that similar actions endanger Georgia's path to the European Union and de facto stop the accession process.

"The European Council expects the Georgian authorities to ensure free and fair parliamentary elections," the summit's draft conclusions state.

The agency writes that the parliamentary elections of October 26 are closely monitored by Georgia's international partners.
