Josep Borell: the actions, statements and election promises of the ruling party are moving Georgia away from the European path and indicate a transition to authoritarianism - let's wait for the parliamentary elections, which will be a decisive test

The recent actions, statements and election promises of the ruling party move Georgia away from the European path and indicate a transition to authoritarianism, - said the EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Josep Borrell, at the press conference held after the meeting of the EU foreign ministers.

According to Josep Borell, the foreign ministers discussed the planned elections in Moldova and Georgia.

"Georgia presents a more depressing picture. The recent actions, statements and election promises of the ruling party move the country away from the European path and point to a transition towards authoritarianism. That is why the EU accession process is de facto suspended. You know that the Commission makes decisions regarding access to European funding. Let's wait for the next parliamentary elections, which will be a decisive test for democracy in Georgia and its path to the European Union," said Josep Borell.
