Tamar Kordzaia, a leader of the "Unity-National Movement" coalition, has accused the "Georgian Dream" party of confiscating the ID cards of elderly citizens and employees from a shelter in Tsnori. She called the act "unthinkable," even for the ruling party, and condemned the use of government resources to intimidate or manipulate voters ahead of the upcoming elections.
Kordzaia revealed that 22 elderly residents and nine employees from a shelter in Tsnori had their identity cards seized and taken to the "Georgian Dream" office. She described this as a deeply disgraceful action, criticizing the ruling party for stooping to such measures in an attempt to influence the election.
The opposition leader accused "Georgian Dream" of mobilizing the entire state apparatus to pressure and bribe Georgian citizens ahead of the elections, asserting that the party is desperate and fearful of losing power.
She also pointed to additional instances of alleged voter suppression, noting that the opposition’s campaign activities had been obstructed in Adjara, where their representatives were stopped by police and had their vehicle confiscated.
"There are nine days left before the election, and 'Georgian Dream' knows that it will lose this election... That is why it has decided to fully engage the government machine to intimidate or bribe the citizens of Georgia," Kordzaia stated.
Describing the incident in Tsnori, she added, "ID cards and passports were confiscated from 22 elderly people and 9 employees and taken to the 'Georgian Dream' office. A more shameful act than this is unthinkable, even from such a criminal government."
Kordzaia further urged citizens not to fear, assuring them that the opposition will protect their rights: "We call on those people whose ID cards have been confiscated, not to be afraid and come to our representatives at the 'Unity-National Movement' office – we will definitely protect each of them."
She concluded her remarks with a call to action for voters: "There are 9 days left before the elections, and victory is on our side. We should all go to the elections and make a choice of our own free will for the benefit of our own and our country's future."
