Maka Bochorishvili on the statement of the Helsinki Commission: these statements are needed for journalists to come, ask questions and create a political agenda - it is not serious when there are references to authoritarianism

These statements are needed in order for you [journalists] to come to me, ask questions and create a political agenda - this statement, as well as any discussion about Georgia 10 days before the elections, has no more function, - the chairman of the European Integration Committee of the Georgian Parliament said this , Maka Bochorishvili said while talking to journalists about the statement of the US Helsinki Commission.

According to her, references to authoritarianism are not serious.

"It is not serious when there are references to authoritarianism. If the Helsinki Commission names one country where there are so many opposition TV stations, so many opposition political parties, where freedom of expression is ensured in such a way that people can protest something freely for months, if someone names me such an authoritarian country, then I will make a serious comment on this statement.

These statements are needed so that you [journalists] come to me, ask questions and create a political agenda. "This statement, as well as all discussions about Georgia 10 days before the elections, have no more function," said Bochorishvili.

The US Helsinki Commission notes in its statement that the Georgian people deserve a government that respects their right to democratically elect their leaders.

According to the statement, the authoritarian trajectory of the Georgian government endangers the country's democratic future and Euro-Atlantic aspirations.
