Emmanuel Macron: "Government's actions in Georgia threaten EU accession process"

French President Emmanuel Macron expressed concern about Georgia's EU accession prospects, stating that the government's recent actions are leading to the suspension of the process. His comments followed the European Council meeting.

Speaking at a press briefing, Macron emphasized that the current steps taken by the Georgian government have led to the halting of the country’s EU accession progress. This comes at a critical time, as the Georgian people prepare to express their choice in the upcoming elections.

"We have expressed our concern about the current situation in Georgia. The steps taken by the government actually lead to the suspension of the accession process, and the Georgian people will have to make their choice in the coming days," Macron said.

He also highlighted the broader context of international concerns, particularly mentioning support for Moldova amid its vulnerability to hybrid actions by Russia. Georgia’s situation remains a focus of concern for European leaders, as its future in the European Union hangs in the balance.
