German Ambassador: Georgia can do whatever it wants, but it cannot do whatever it wants and join the EU

Georgia can do whatever it wants, but it cannot do whatever it wants and join the European Union at the same time, - this is how the German ambassador to Georgia, Peter Fischer, responded to the provisions on Georgia adopted by the European Council on October 17.

"This is the official position of the European Union in relation to Georgia, which was adopted on October 17 by the European Council, which is our final decision-making body on the enlargement of the European Union. If you are worried about this matter, read and understand these words. Georgia can do whatever it wants. But it cannot do whatever it wants and join the EU. You decide,” Fisher wrote.

For information, the European Council, which brings together the leaders of the 27 EU member states, said in its yesterday's decision that it is "still seriously concerned about the course of action of the Georgian government" and notes that "such a course of action threatens Georgia's European path and de facto stops the EU accession process."
