There is no special EU mission that will help Georgia to increase its resistance to interference and disinformation, because, unfortunately, the disinformation comes from the official side of the ruling government, - said the spokesperson of the EU External Action Service, Peter Stano, at the briefing.
With this, Stano answered the question related to the elections, namely whether they are working against the spread of disinformation with Georgia as well as with Moldova.
At the same time, Stano noted that the European Union continues to help Georgia with another observation mission.
"Our support to Georgia is multifaceted and we have been working intensively with our partners in Georgia, especially the Georgian government, on many issues until recently. Then a big change happened in Georgia, and it happened when officials from the government started using disinformation against the European Union, and that's why our relations took a slightly different direction, which was discussed several times by the foreign ministers at the Foreign Affairs Council, as well as the leaders of the European Union at the European Council. So, there is no special EU mission to help Georgia increase its resistance to interference and disinformation, because, unfortunately, in this case, the disinformation comes from the official side of the ruling government. But we continue to help Georgia with another mission - the observation mission, which is there because of the current situation related to the separatist formations of Abkhazia and South Ossetia. We hope that the renewal of perfect cooperation with the Georgian authorities will be possible if the upcoming elections are free, fair and in accordance with international and European standards", said Peter Stano.
