EU Ambassador: Whatever the outcome of the election, given that the election will be free and fair, we will respect the result and work with any democratically elected government in Georgia

As the European Union, we respect any choice that you, Georgians, will make, - the Ambassador of the European Union to Georgia, Paweł Herczyński, told journalists.

"As the European Union, we respect any choice you Georgians make. The European Union does not make a choice about political decisions, neither before, nor during, nor after the elections. This is the choice of the Georgian people", said Paweł Herczyński.

According to him, the European Union expects the upcoming elections to be free and fair.

"We have said loud and clear that we expect the upcoming elections to be free and fair in accordance with the highest standards, which should be fully inclusive, fully transparent and fully competitive," said the EU Ambassador to Georgia.

When asked whether relations between European and Georgian business partners have been suspended, the ambassador said that Georgia's integration into the European Union was suspended last June.

"Georgia's integration into the European Union was stopped last June. This was the decision of the leaders of the European Union. We reduced financial aid to Georgia, current programs were reduced by 120 million, and you Georgians must decide what kind of future you want for your country. Currently, during the last few months, instead of getting closer, Georgia is moving away from the European Union", said Paweł Herczyński.

The Ambassador noted that he fully trusts the choice of the Georgian people.

"I have full confidence in the choice of the Georgian people. Whatever the result of the election, given that the election will be free and fair, we will respect the said result and we will work with any democratically elected government of Georgia," said the EU Ambassador to Georgia.
