The results of the elections in Georgia indicate that the voters understand the importance of maintaining an independent course and cooperation with the neighbors, including Russia, - said the Secretary General of the CIS, Sergey Lebedev.
"The results of the elections speak for themselves: people understand the importance of maintaining an independent course corresponding to the interests of the Georgian nation for the Georgian people, and there is no doubt that cooperation with the neighbors both in the South Caucasus region and with the northern neighbors, primarily the Russian Federation, meets the interests of the Georgian people," Lebedev said in a conversation with journalists.
According to him, anyone who claims otherwise or deliberately distorts the real picture is far from reality.
"I cannot say without satisfaction that all the statements of "Georgian Dream" that they are ready to restore good-neighborly relations with Russia and other CIS countries and that they now oppose the sanctions imposed against Russia and Belarus - you can't help but rejoice, because this Georgia meets the interests of the people", said the Secretary General of the CIS.
