After the parliamentary elections in Georgia, I intend to include the issue of Georgia in the agenda of the informal meeting of the European Council in Budapest, - this was stated in the statement of the President of the European Council, Charles Michel.
"We note the OSCE/ODIHR preliminary assessment and call on the Central Election Commission and other relevant bodies to fulfill their duty and quickly, transparently and independently investigate and consider election violations and allegations. These alleged violations must be seriously investigated and eliminated," says Michel.
According to him, the European Union still calls on the leadership of Georgia to show strong commitment to the country's path to the European Union."We repeat the call of the European Union to the leadership of Georgia to demonstrate its strong commitment to the country's path to the European Union, as well as in accordance with the conclusions of the European Council in June and October. Constructive and inclusive dialogue across the political spectrum is now paramount," the statement said.
According to Charles Michel, the European Council will assess the situation in November and determine the next steps in relations with Georgia.
