Georgia will not experience progress on the path of European integration until there is a setback in the field of democracy and fundamental rights, - this is how the Ambassador of the Netherlands to Georgia, Meline Arakelian, responds to the statement of the Chairman of the Foreign Relations Committee of the Parliament, Nikoloz Samkharadze, who says that the European Commission's enlargement report shows that Georgia is progressing on the European path.

"No, Mr. Nikoloz Samkharadze, this is not true. Georgia does not experience progress on the path of European integration until there is a setback in the field of democracy and fundamental rights. The process of joining Georgia to the European Union is suspended because of this," the ambassador of the Netherlands wrote on social platform X.

Let us remind you that previously the Chairman of the Foreign Relations Committee of the Parliament, Nikoloz Samkharadze, a member of the parliamentary majority, wrote on X that 25 out of 35 points in the European Commission's enlargement report talk about different levels of progress by Georgia during the last 12 months. "Despite many accusations and speculations, Georgia is making progress on the European road and is still ahead of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Ukraine and Moldova in terms of fundamental rights," wrote Samkharadze.
