In the 69th precinct of Marneuli, the deputy chairman of the Sakrebulo and another person arrested for stuffing ballots into the ballot box were imprisoned as a preventive measure

The deputy chairman of the city council, Rovshan Iskandarov and Ekbar Iskandarov, who were arrested for stuffing ballots into the ballot box in the 69th precinct of Marneuli, were imprisoned as a preventive measure.

The relevant petition was submitted by the prosecution at the trial, which was approved by judge Gvantsa Chikovani.

According to the lawyer of the defendants, the case may be about procedural violations, but not forgery.

"The position of the accused is that we are not dealing with the fact of forgery, but perhaps we are dealing with violations of the procedure and neither with forgery. No fake ballots are presented in the case, which would prove that the defendants put these ballots in the ballot box," the lawyer said.

According to the prosecutor, the evidence in the case, including the video recordings, confirm that both defendants put ballots in the ballot box.

The pre-trial session of the mentioned criminal case was scheduled on December 25 of this year, at 14:00, in Bolnisi court.

For information, the Deputy Chairman of the City Council, Rovshan Iskandarov and Ekbar Iskandarov, who were arrested for stuffing ballots into the ballot box, were charged yesterday under Article 164³ (Election Fraud) of the Criminal Code of Georgia, which carries a penalty of up to 2 years in prison.
