Gia Volski: Like all other democracies, the Georgian government acts based on the country's pragmatic interests, and it is unfounded to talk about a change in the foreign exchange rate - that's why the majority of the population supported us

When the opponents talk about some incompatibilities between the positions of Georgia and the European Union in foreign policy, they first of all mean the unacceptability of the Georgian government entering into an economic and, moreover, military conflict with Russia. It is clear to everyone that otherwise this will lead to the destruction of the country, - the first deputy speaker of the Parliament, Gia Volski, writes on the social network.

As Volski notes, the Georgian government can not share the critical position that the European Union may have in relation to the policies of individual countries in Asia or Africa, because according to him, the priority for the Georgian government is to implement the strategy of non-recognition of the occupied territories.

According to him, Georgia's ratings on all key issues are significantly ahead of the indicators of the candidate countries for EU membership and many EU member states, therefore, like all other democracies, the Georgian government acts based on the pragmatic interests of its own country.

"When the opponents talk about some incompatibility between the positions of Georgia and the European Union in foreign policy, they mean first of all the inadmissibility of the Georgian government entering into an economic and, moreover, military confrontation with Russia.

It is clear to everyone that otherwise it will lead to the destruction of the country. For example, it is worth noting that the volume of trade turnover of Lithuania is almost twice the annual volume of Russia-Georgia trade and it is amazing, but we are significantly behind it in the volume of wine supply. It should also be taken into account that the Russian occupation army is not only 40 kilometers from Tbilisi, but only a few hundred meters away from our strategic communications (this is another, the most difficult legacy left by the previous government of Georgia!)

The government of Georgia cannot share the critical position that the European Union might have in relation to the policies of individual countries in Asia or Africa, because our priority is to implement the strategy of non-recognition of the occupied territories.

One of the topics is also the issue of development of trade and economic relations with China, which is not in accordance with the policy of the European Union and which the opposition accuses us of.

At the same time, for example, in the wake of new, positive trends emerging in the relations of a number of European countries and Canada with China, there are news in the relations between Finland, a member of the European Union and NATO: two days ago, the four-day official visit of the President of Finland to China ended, he was in Beijing and Shanghai together with members of the government. Although the positions of the two countries are opposite on certain issues, the governments agreed on a joint action plan, which defines the development of cooperation in the fields of science, technology, education, sports, culture and tourism in the period 2025-2029; A memorandum of understanding was signed in nine directions and fifteen trade agreements were concluded. To date, the volume of bilateral trade between these countries exceeds eight billion dollars.

In addition, during the visit, the Chinese side unilaterally canceled visa obligations for Finnish citizens. China has also expressed its willingness to further strengthen strategic cooperation with Finland. It was announced that the Finnish government will continue to adhere to the "One China" principle.

There are also differences between the positions of the EU and Georgia on the well-known issue of limiting LGBT propaganda and ensuring transparency. It is also known that there are differences between the positions of the EU member states on a number of issues. Let's not forget that Georgia's ratings on all key issues are significantly ahead of the indicators of EU candidate countries and many EU member states.

The conclusion based on this brief review is the only one, just like all other democracies, the Georgian government acts based on the pragmatic interests of its own country and any talk about changing the foreign course is groundless, it is this pathos that carries the slogan "toward Europe with peace, dignity, prosperity", that is why it supported the "Georgian" in the elections. "Dream" by the largest part of the population", writes Gia Volski.
