Jemal Gamakharia: On November 15, a big clash and resistance is expected in Abkhazia

According to the Chairman of the Supreme Council of Abkhazia, Jemal Gamakharia, on November 15, during the ratification of the so-called draft law on "regulating the legal status of multifunctional complexes", "a big clash and resistance" is expected in Abkhazia.

As Jemal Gamakharia stated, at this stage it is difficult to say whether the document will be ratified or not, however, according to Gamakharia, it will at least result in the loss of power by the de-facto president, Aslan Bzhania.

"I rarely remember such resistance, there is more dissatisfaction now than there was in the days before the passing of the law. I expect a very big clash, resistance, on November 15. It is difficult to say whether this will be accepted or not, but even if it is accepted, it needs to be implemented. There will be a lot of resistance at the implementation stage. De facto elections are coming and the opposition will make good use of it. The opposition offers Bzhania to wait for the elections, which should be held in March, and go to the elections with this program - the law on investments, the constitutional law, apartments. With this, he should appear in front of the public and if he receives support, the resistance will stop. Therefore, if all this is accepted, at least it will happen that Bzhania will lose power. The pre-election background gives these documents special importance. If the issue was with us now - Europe or Russia, which was made up by my deep belief and did not exist in reality, here, the issue of presence or non-existence is actually facing us.

All agreements, laws, which the de-facto government of Abkhazia accepts under Russian pressure, are aimed at annexation. One big step should be taken in this direction, and the Abkhazian society opposes it," said Gamakharia.

In addition, according to Jemal Gamakharia, Russian media clearly read open threats against the Abkhazian society that if this resistance continues, it will be suppressed by Russia.

"Abkhazians are not against investments, they are against the conditions under which they enter. Imagine that someone is doing you a great favor, you are against it, and because you are against it, you are being punished. There are threats [in the Russian media] - calling on the Russian authorities to take some action against these riotous people and put a stop to it all. One can clearly read the open threats against the Abkhazian society that this resistance will be suppressed by Russia if this continues. It is clear whose interests these so-called investments are in, which should come to Abkhazia and thereby supposedly build Abkhazia, the standard of living will rise, the budget will increase, etc. Russia will do this with weapons and force - that's what we're dealing with," Jemal Gamakharia said at the press conference held at “Kvira” media holding.

We remind you that the protest wave in Sokhumi started after the so-called the parliament adopted the law "On Regulation of the Legal Status of Multifunctional Complexes", which regulates some concepts of the so-called intergovernmental agreement on investments with Russia. The opposition claims that it is about the sale of apartments in Abkhazia to Russia and opposes the ratification of the document.

In addition, on the evening of November 11, five activists of the "opposition" of Abkhazia were arrested after participating in a fight with the so-called member of the parliament, although yesterday, the cases of three of the five detainees were closed.
