A debate will be held in the European Parliament today on the issue of the elections held in Georgia and Russia's alleged interference

Today, in the European Parliament, a debate will be held on the results of the Georgian parliamentary elections and Russia's alleged interference, the European Parliament announced.

According to the statement, the political groups agreed on the change in the agenda. The European parliamentarians must confirm the decision.

"Parliament expresses concern about democratic decline in Georgia. MEPs are discussing the results of disputed parliamentary elections in Georgia, including Russia's alleged interference.

Thousands of people took to the streets of Georgia to protest the results of disputed parliamentary elections held in October 2024, in which the ruling Georgian Dream party won amid allegations that Russia helped rig the vote. The participants of the rally demand, among other things, the holding of new elections under international supervision and a proper investigation into the alleged vote fraud.

After the announcement of the voting results, representatives of the governments of 15 EU countries expressed deep concern about the situation in Georgia and condemned the violation of international standards of free and fair elections. Also, the leading members of the European Parliament pointed to the violations detected by the international observers and demanded a proper investigation of the observed violations," the statement said.

In addition, MEPs will vote on the resolution at the plenary session on November 25-28.
